ConKerr Smile Makers:

Nancy Swanston

Nancy's Smile(left) Lights up the World

Nancy’s interest in ConKerr pillowcases began in 2008 when she read a Dallas newspaper article featuring the “Happiness is Quilting” quilt shop and ConKerr Cancer. The Children’s Medical Center of Dallas had just opened a branch hospital  in Plano, Texas so Nancy decided to approach the hospital about being a beneficiary of ConKerr pillowcases.

With the help of Quilt Guilds, Scout troops, synagogue and  church groups, school children and a lot of  ladies “just” wanting to help to bring  smiles to needy children, the Plano chapter has delivered over 5700 pillowcases to 3 area hospitals.

Nancy is so thankful for her past coordinator, Carrie, Pam Beach who has sewn 25 pillowcases a month for the last 2 years and the 4 quilt shops that support her. “From something so heart rending as the loss of Ryan, ConKerr has brought some cheer to myriads of children. It has been a pleasure to work for such a helpful organization making it possible to do our little bit to bring smiles to children everywhere,” said Nancy.

Ryan's Shoes

It is our pleasure to not only recognize Nancy as a ConKerr Smile Maker, but to award her our highest honor, The High Top Award. This is an ongoing award presented to a volunteer or coordinator who exhibits the values Ryan held so dear; compassion, a love for life and a desire to make the world a brighter place.  Nancy, thank you for all you do!
